Photo Pack : Body Truths
“It’s not about what your body looks like, it’s not even about what it can do for you. It’s just your body. You honor it, you move it, and you breathe in it.” – Anita, 26
In our own bodies, with both imperfections and beauty, we are unique. Yet our differences can sometimes feel like a curse.
Shaped by the media we consume, our self-perception becomes skewed based on what others believe, or by pure volume of messages and imagery telling us our appearance should be a certain way.
It’s important for us to find truth about ourselves, outside of the definitions of others.
We hope it helps you relate to your own body, too.
“The Italian idea of beauty is permeating everywhere. It’s also a soft way to look at beauty, the ‘dolce vita’ (’the sweet life’) type of beauty. It’s a kind way to look at beauty.” – Hiroko, 43
“I care a lot about what I put into my body, how I treat my body, making sure I get sleep…I was a vegan for 2 years, which sounds weird now because I presently eat meat.” – Doug, 33
“I wanted to shoot this pack to explore diverse perspectives and how those different than me experience the world through their bodies, and how the world reacts to their bodies. I wanted to intentionally explore perspectives that were racially, ethnically, or age-wise, different than mine.
I think that in portraying these brief portraits we scratch the surface of beginning to communicate the human experience and bring us closer to each other rather than farther apart.”
